Just getting into this blogging lark and, no doubt, the whole thing will fall into dis-use within a few days. But as the mind is willing I thought it a good idea to get some thoughts on the page regarding our recent holiday.
Here is a picture of Harry getting wet and foamy in the main square in Playa Blanca. As we turned up for a quick look around the town the drum band struck up a beat and the whole crowd began to sway. Then the local fire engine turned on the water and foam and the square became enveloped in bath water. The children rushed forward as the band continued to advance into the foam. Harry finally plucked up the courage and rushed into the throng of kids and was easy to spot with his yellow Brazil top.
The diving in Lanzarote was great too. Harry passed his PADI scuba diver qualification and I managed to get my advanced open water qualification. Not an insubstantial thing for a 12 year old to handle but with 5 dives under his belt H seems well adapted to life under the sea. I've dived in the Dominican Republic and the Red Sea but Lanzarote was just as good. Sea horses and 3m wide sting rays, caves and underwater tunnels were all available to see. In 1760 the island was subject to a huge volcanic eruption that lasted 6 years. Being on a volcanic shelf you can dive down to around 40m then the shelf drops off another 2,500m.
I would thoroughly recommend Lanzarote to anyone looking for a restful break. The constant gentle breeze kept the temperature down to a comfortable 80F.
